IFRS S2 Climate-related Disclosures: A Technical Overview
What does well-structured climate reporting require? Episode 6 of GreenCo's Singapore Green Plan series gives a technical overview of IFRS S2 Climate-related Disclosures, the climate-specific standard designed to be used with IFRS S1. Effective from 1 January 2024, IFRS S2 requires companies to disclose information about climate-related physical and transition risks, as well as climate-related opportunities.
Key Components of IFRS S2
- Climate governance and strategy β board oversight of climate matters, and how climate risks and opportunities shape strategy and transition plans.
- Climate risk management β processes to identify, assess and manage climate-related risks.
- Climate metrics and targets β including Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions and climate-related targets.
- Climate resilience β assessed using climate-related scenario analysis.
- Financial impact β the current and anticipated financial effects of climate-related risks and opportunities.
Why IFRS S2 Matters
IFRS S2 is the basis for mandatory climate reporting in Singapore and many other markets. Understanding it is critical for meeting stakeholder expectations and managing climate-related financial risks. Explore GreenCo's climate scenario analysis and GHG emissions calculation services.
