Disclosing emissions is only the first step. Investors, customers and regulators now want to know how a company will reduce them. A credible decarbonisation roadmap turns your GHG inventory into science-based targets, practical reduction projects and a transition plan you can disclose with confidence under IFRS S2, HKEX and SGX requirements. GreenCo helps companies build that roadmap from scratch, from baseline to net zero.
Why a Decarbonisation Roadmap Matters
- Disclosure requirements – IFRS S2 and the HKEX climate requirements ask companies to disclose climate-related targets and transition plans, not just emissions.
- Rising carbon costs – carbon pricing, such as Singapore's carbon tax, makes emissions a growing financial liability.
- Customer and supply chain pressure – multinational customers with net-zero commitments increasingly expect suppliers to set and meet reduction targets.
- Access to finance – lenders and investors favour companies with credible targets, including through sustainability-linked loans and bonds.
Our 6-Step Approach to Decarbonisation
1. Establish a Robust GHG Baseline
A reliable Scope 1, 2 and 3 inventory, prepared under the GHG Protocol, with a clearly defined base year and boundary. Without a credible baseline, targets cannot be measured or trusted.
2. Set Science-Based Targets
- Near-term targets (typically 5–10 years) aligned with limiting warming to 1.5°C. For Scope 1 and 2, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) absolute contraction approach implies a reduction of at least 4.2% a year.
- Scope 3 targets, required by the SBTi where Scope 3 emissions are at least 40% of total emissions.
- Long-term net-zero targets, typically a reduction of around 90% by 2050, with residual emissions neutralised through permanent carbon removals.
3. Identify and Prioritise Abatement Levers
- Energy efficiency in buildings, equipment and processes.
- Electrification and fuel switching.
- Renewable energy: on-site solar, renewable energy certificates (RECs) and power purchase agreements (PPAs).
- Supplier engagement and low-carbon procurement for Scope 3.
- Product and business model innovation.
We use a marginal abatement cost curve (MACC) to rank options by cost per tonne of CO₂e avoided, so you invest where it counts.
4. Build the Roadmap and Business Case
A year-by-year pathway linking projects to targets, with capital and operating cost estimates, carbon cost savings and clear ownership.
5. Define the Role of Carbon Credits
High-quality carbon credits can complement, but never replace, real emission reductions. We help you set a clear, credible policy on their use and disclosure.
6. Disclose and Track Progress
We prepare transition plan disclosures in line with IFRS S2, HKEX and SGX requirements, and set up annual tracking against targets.
